12x12 Art Show & Sale

The 12x12 Art Show & Sale is the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition’s biggest annual fundraiser. Begun in 1990, the popular and well-established event supports programs such as curated exhibitions, grants, professional development workshops, young artist events and crucial publications.

12X12 2010 PHOTO CONTEST
Oklahoma artists are invited to submit artwork to a Fred Jones Building Photography Contest. OVAC is offering a one-time photography contest in conjunction with the fundraiser, 12x12 Art Show and Sale. Selected 12 artworks will be displayed and sold at the 12x12, held in the Fred Jones Building on September 25, 2010.

Todd Tubutis , director of the Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, OR, will serve as the judge, selecting 12 photographs for the show.

Eligibility:
The contest is open to individuals who reside in Oklahoma. Artists are encouraged to submit up to three entries for consideration.

Photographs must be of the Fred Jones Industries building (900 W. Main, Oklahoma City) interior or exterior. Photographers may shoot the Fred Jones Industries building interior during designated times and the exterior when convenient. Photographs taken in the past are also welcome.

Entry procedure:
Must be submitted digitally at http://bit.ly/12x12contest. Images need to be submitted by 5 pm on September 1. Images must be JPEG or TIFF and 300dpi at 11”x14”. Image should not be resampled from a lower file size. File names should be your last name followed by the entry number (i.e. Smith01.jpg).

Display and Sales:
OVAC will print the winning photographs and have them framed identically.

Photographs will be available as series of the 12 winning photographs or individually. Up to an edition of 12 will be printed based on sales.

Artists will receive 50% of the sales price and two tickets to the 12x12 event. The series price is $1,000. Individual pieces will begin at $100 for silent auction.

Rules:
Images of accepted entries will be retained by the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. Submission of work to this exhibition shall constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to the conditions set forth in this prospectus and shall further include permission to reproduce work for publication, documentation, and the press. Non-selected works may appear in a slide show or event publicity, but will not be printed without artists’ permission.

Timeline:
Interior shooting: ONLY Thursday, August 26, 7-9 am -or- Friday, August 27, 3-5 pm
Exterior shooting: photographer’s choice, please be respectful of business activities

12x12 Artist Invitations:
The purpose of the 12x12 Art Show & Sale is to raise as many funds as possible to support all of OVAC’s programs. It is also a fun event that features visual art sold in an unusual manner. The 12x12 is a fundraiser, not one of OVAC’s open call, representative programs. For this reason, the 12x12 artists are invited by a working group of the 12x12 Committee. OVAC has over 1,000 artist members, but only 150 can be featured in 12x12. The following are the invitation criteria used to recruit artists for the event.

The 12x12 Committee will select new artists based on diversity of media and/or range of styles. New 12x12 artists are selected from the OVAC Virtual Gallery. Artists receiving repeat invitations have a strong history of sales at 12x12 and are still current members of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

Eligibility:
Artists who are interested in being new participants in the fundraiser and have not been invited need to:
1. Join OVAC.
2. Have artwork on the Virtual Gallery, www.ovacgallery.com.

The 12x12 Committee meets in the late spring each year to send invitations. Artists who turn in work late or do not follow event protocol will not be asked to participate.
