Artist Statement

I create art because there is nothing else I would rather do. I try to reveal the essence of my subject through rich color and the elimination of details. Primarily my subjects are barns and other vintage structures, but I do paint a landscape now and then. The fluid properties of acrylics enable me to paint layer upon layer of transparent color to achieve the luminous effect that I want. I prepare my birch panels with several coats of red paint...this is my security blanket. I can't imagine beginning a painting on a glaring white surface. I am very happy when a person responds to my work, whether it is to the color or to a memory of another time or place.
