Brett McDanel

Artist Statement

The recurrent theme in my sculptural work is pushing through to overcome struggle; and I seek to inspire strength through the subjects and narratives I depict. The subjective nature of my work is driven by universally relevant experiences and materials that are commonplace.

Artist Bio

Brett McDanel constructs innovative industrial sculptures from found objects. Brett’s segue into the arts world came about when he went to work for artist Tom Lee in 2000. Lee was constantly prodding McDanel toward creativity. It was, however, Tom’s passing in 2010 that prompted the inception of Brett’s creative career. The next major evolution in the artist’s sculptures also arrived with tragedy. In the aftermath of those events the artist’s compositions became something more than just a playful practice and McDanel’s figure studies started to emerge with the depth of emotion that we see today.
