Jim Rode

Artist Statement

Art flows from the fingers of the artist into the medium of choice. I believe we absorb the color of the art we see. Arts steeping color restores us like a good cup of tea. Art is a desire to live differently.
Too often we fool ourselves in what we buy. We accept white and grey and boredom for our walls. We’ve been taught to want “natural”. We buy “real” vitamins, “whole” food, “natural” water (in plastic bottles), and simple pinewood furniture designs shipped from an Ikea forest. Deep within us we long for a more colorful world. I paint so we have color as a refuge to be ourselves.

Artist Bio

Jim Rode is married and has an MBA from the University of Dallas. He lives in Oklahoma City.
He began his career as an assistant to the president and learned photography from the president's photographer. Photographing people in love guided Jim to art.

Jim's focus today is art from the capture of life. "Like Warhol and his polaroid, I begin my work with an iPhone. It's tiny lens and sensor gives me a delicate file which I manipulate as a base to create. I apply ink to canvas or with metal creations, ink to plastic. The ink/plastic is burned to aluminum at approximately 400º." This is costly, but stunning results feed my soul.
