As a painter I work towards creating a painterly response to the beauty that I find in everyday places and things. I love the play between light and dark, and tend to focus on the light both in painting and in life. As a teacher I work towards giving my students the tools to successfully transfer the painting in their imagination to their canvas. As artist in residence, I work to facilitate healing and help patients see the light at the end of the tunnel through art. I blog about the artistic life at http://margaretaycock.com. This is also a place where you can purchase one of my how-to books or DVDs on painting in oil.
Although I was born in the Catskill Mountains of New York and lived all over the east coast, I settled in the late 70s in Tulsa OK. I am an oil painter whose work is both representational and painterly in style. When I am not painting for myself I am demonstrating oil painting techniques to my adult students. I work with the Tulsa Arts and Humanities Council’s Artist as an artist in residence in the Arts in Healing Program. I have operated an online gallery for over 15 years. http://midwest-fine-art.com Subject matter for my paintings includes land/seascape, figures, still life. I have also authored 2 books on painting and wrote/ illustrated one children's book.
