Kristin Gentry, From Above, Monotype Mixed Media, 12×6″
Stillwater-based artist Kristin Gentry will be exhibiting in Between the Lines, a two-person exhibit at the Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery in February 2011. The exhibition will consist of numerous woodblock relief prints, monotypes, large collaborative pieces with Michelle Himes-Mcrory, and various printmaking mixed-media works. There will also be a video loop of photos and footage taken throughout the process of printmaking. The project will be completed in part with the assistance of an Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition Professional Basics Grant.
Kristin Gentry, Runs Through My Veins, Monotype Mixed Media, 12×6″ each
The artwork for the exhibition is a mixture of contemporary and traditional printmaking methods, some pieces are also hand sewn together to stimulate the clothing seams like that of the traditional Native American tribal regalia that influences her art.
“As an Oklahoma arts educator my works will serve as an educational tool for viewers who have not been exposed to the entire printmaking process that occurs before the works are hung in the gallery.” Throughout the show there will be video and footage of the creation process it took her to get the final results to allow the viewers to witness all the steps it truly takes to create traditional prints with a hand cranked printing press.
