Remembering Our Beloved Colleague and Community Member

It is with profound sorrow that the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition shares the loss of Fernando Calvillo, following the tragic train accident of October 28 in Toledo, Spain.

Fernando served as OVAC’s Director of Community Relations for more than four years.  He was a beloved colleague, dear friend, and highly respected member of Oklahoma’s arts community. Through his relationships with artists, organizations, and communities across the state, he made a meaningful difference in countless lives.

At OVAC, we knew him as someone always willing to offer a helping hand. His smile was radiant, and he had a way of making people feel welcomed, remembered, and valued. He brought that same spirit to every person he encountered.

His wisdom, warmth, and commitment to the arts will leave a lasting mark on our community and on all of us who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be missed tremendously.

We extend our deepest condolences to Fernando’s husband, Lawrence Naff; their families, and loved ones. At the same time, we continue to hold Lawrence close in our hearts and wish him strength and healing as he recovers from injuries he sustained in the accident.

We know that many across Oklahoma and beyond are grieving alongside us. We are grateful for the many messages of care, concern, and support, and for the kindness and compassion so many have extended.

On Tuesday, November 3, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, we invite members of Oklahoma’s arts community to gather at Dunlap Codding (609 W Sheridan Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73102) to be together during this difficult time.
