    • First Bethany Bank

First Bethany Bank has recently started a Community Art Initiative to spruce up our boring bank walls and tables, and add a local community component. We won’t be selling art, but giving local Oklahoman artists a free place to display their piece(s), with a simple plaque for their name and contact info. We cannot guarantee that anyone would follow the contact info to buy art, but we hope so! We will display the piece for a few months and then return it and rotate to another artist. We welcome both wall art and small 3D items that can sit on tables we have in several seating areas around the bank. We have such a diverse community in OKC and it is our mission to bring that diversity a little closer to our clients. We hope to support many local artists by providing this opportunity in the years to come, particularly minorities.

    • 1515 Lincoln Gallery

This spring, from April 25th to June 1st, 2024, 1515 Lincoln Gallery is honored to host "Head in the Clouds," a thought-provoking exhibition featuring longtime friends and colleagues, Marc Barker and Josette Simon-Gestin. This unique showcase brings together two artists renowned for their distinctive approaches to capturing the essence of both the physical world and the realms of imagination.

Marc Barker, an Oklahoma City based artist with a profound background in both science and art, delves into the ethereal beauty of cloudscapes, translating his contemplations on nature, the environment, and human introspection into expansive compositions. Barker’s work prompts a dialogue between the viewer and the vastness of both the external environment and internal vistas.

Josette Simon-Gestin, hailing from Brittany, France, and a cherished part of Oklahoma City's vibrant art scene since her time living here in 1987, offers a lively contrast with her dynamic figures and vivid backdrops. Drawing inspiration from her travels and the rich tapestry of life, Simon-Gestin’s work is a celebration of movement, color, and the complexity of the world. Her recent experiences in Shanghai’s bustling markets breathe life into her paintings, inviting the viewer into a world where every detail tells a story.

1515 Lincoln Gallery is proud to present this exciting exhibition by two of the gallery’s premier consigned artists. The exhibition promises an immersive experience into the artistic journeys of Barker and Simon-Gestin, whose works, though contrasting, share a common quest for understanding and expressing the multifaceted narratives of life and nature. "Head in the Clouds” encapsulates the exploratory spirit and artistic diversity of both artists. Join us at the gallery for the opening reception on Thursday, April 25th, 6-8 pm.

Print on Paseo is the Paseo Arts Association's annual juried printmaking exhibition. It is open to all types of printmaking, from traditional to contemporary. Through this exhibition, the Paseo Arts Association strives to represent and spotlight the depth and diversity of Oklahoma printmakers and educate the public about the many different printmaking processes like relief printing, lithography, woodcuts and screenprinting. This year, the exhibit is juried by Kathryn Combs. Combs is a Midwest based artist and educator who specializes in printmaking. Her work explores relationships between technology, society, and individuals. Comb's work employs a wide range of techniques and approaches, including screenprinting, laser engraving, weaving and installation art. Recently, she has focused on the opacity of the way that AI technology interprets data.

Combs’s work has been exhibited internationally at Spazio SV in Venice, Italy as well as domestically throughout the American Midwest and South. She is a cofounder and co-owner of the Southern Indiana based Risography studio, Junior Jr. Studio, which hosts the annual Kentuckiana Zine Festival. Kathryn received her MFA in Printmaking from Indiana University in 2021 and a BFA in Printmaking from Indiana University Southeast in 2018. She is currently the Studio Manager at the Lawrence Arts Center in Lawrence, Kansas. Join Dana Lombardo to explore the essential foundations of light and how it affects color and composition in painting.
She will demonstrate in oil, but other painting mediums are welcome. Each morning and afternoon, she will begin with a short lecture and a demo, followed by hands-on painting and individual instruction.

On day one, we will learn about color and light and how they affect values, color mixing, light, and shadow. We will discuss palette options and how to decide what to use in your painting. We will then use your color palette to create your color reference charts.

On day two, we will create a simple painting using a photo reference or from life, using what we learned the previous day. Participants will paint on their own with one-on-one instruction following each demo. At the end of the second day, time permitting, we will have a critique and review of current work.
