This four week intensive invites artists to deepen their practice through sustained observation of a single figure pose. Centered around a thoughtfully constructed setting featuring a dynamic pose, dramatic lighting, and curated drapery/props, students will return to the same composition throughout the intensive, allowing approximately five hours of focused studio time with the figure. Through repeated encounters with the same subject, artists move beyond first impressions to strengthen their understanding of proportion, anatomy, value, color, atmosphere, and composition while developing a more intentional observational drawing/painting practice. Each class begins with the brief gesture warm ups deigned to activate observational skills before transitioning into sustained work from the long pose. individualized feedback and one-on-one instruction support artists in refining their technical abilities while cultivating their own artistic voice and approach to the figure. Open to intermediate and advanced students working in drawing or painting media, this intensive offers a focused and immersive studio experience that prioritizes observation, encouraging artists to trust the process of seeing and to create more thoughtful figurative work.

Students have the option to bring their own classroom-safe dry and wet mediums to class. A variety of drawing and painting supplies will also be available in the classroom. 

Classes take place every Tuesday in August from 6–8pm at Firehouse Art Center in Norman, OK.
