    • Uncanny Art House

Uncanny Art House is currently accepting submissions for this exhibition until October 30th. Step inside the surreal world of David Lynch at In Dreams: A David Lynch Tribute, opening January 9, 2026, during Norman’s 2nd Friday Art Walk. Running through March 1, this immersive exhibition transforms the gallery into a Lynchian dreamscape with interactive rooms, looping highway projections, and a Black Lodge installation with zigzag floors and red curtains.

Visitors will explore themes of duality, voyeurism, and uncanny Americana through painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation art. Special programs will include a screening of David Lynch: The Art Life, a meditative event for Lynch’s birthday, and more during this special two month long exhibition.

Artists are invited to submit works that reflect Lynchian
themes: voyeurism, doppelgängers, Americana with a dark undercurrent, surreal encounters, and the strangeness within the ordinary. Works may be directly inspired by Lynch’s films and artwork, or they may channel the uncanny spirit of his style.

All mediums are welcome, including painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, digital art, and mixed media.

This application is free and open to the public.

    Registration: $100 per student

    Dates: Monday, March 23 & Wednesday, March 25, 2026

    Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

    Capacity: 16 participants

This two-session workshop explores how strong photographic ideas are formed and translated into finished images. Led by Alex Eischeid, Uncanny Art House’s exhibiting artist for the month of March, the class focuses on concept-driven photography rather than technical instruction alone.

Session One: Concept Development (March 23)

The first session centers on shaping photographic ideas before picking up the camera. Participants will explore intention, narrative, symbolism, and visual planning, examining how conceptual decisions influence composition, lighting, and execution. Discussion and examples will guide students through building a clear creative framework for their work.

Session Two: Execution & Demonstration (March 25)

The second session focuses on translating a developed concept into a finished photograph. Participants will observe real-time setup, decision-making, and problem-solving as the image is created. After the workshop, attendees will receive access to a recorded edit of the final image, allowing them to revisit techniques and workflows at their own pace.

This workshop is ideal for photographers interested in strengthening their conceptual thinking and understanding how ideas evolve into cohesive visual work.

    MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Alex Eischeid is a conceptual photographer whose work investigates perception, constructed imagery, and creative process. As Uncanny Art House’s March exhibiting artist, Alex brings firsthand insight into how photographic ideas are developed, refined, and executed, offering participants a clear view into concept-driven photographic practice.

Positive Space Opens 2026 Programming February 7 with Group Exhibition "Permission to Breathe: A Black Woman’s Perspective on Living Life Unapologetically"

"Permission to Breathe: A Black Woman’s Perspective on Living Life Unapologetically" is a vibrant, multidisciplinary art exhibition celebrating the brilliance and boundlessness of Black Women. Curated by Artists Ebony Iman Dallas, Elizabeth Feahther Henley, and Jaiden Jiji McClellan, this show centers the voices, visions, and lived experiences of Black Women Artists who dare to exhale fully, take up space, and create without constraint.

Through diverse artistic practices, the works engage themes of rest, resistance, joy, ancestral memory, embodiment, and radical self-acceptance. Together, they speak to the necessity and the defiance of breathing freely in a world that too often restricts Black Women’s lived experience. Some pieces affirm breath as a revolutionary right. Others bear witness to the labor, struggle, and endurance required simply to exist. In all forms, the art insists on presence, truth, and agency.

"Permission to Breathe" invites artists to reflect on intimate, personal journeys by honoring Black Womanhood in all its nuance and complexity. Here, softness and strength coexist, vulnerability is power, and creativity becomes a pathway to healing, reclamation, and unapologetic being. This exhibition is more than an art show, it is a collective exhale. A celebration of survival and joy, and an invitation to witness, participate, and breathe deeply together.

Exhibit Artists: Goldielxcs, Kimberly Thompson, Suzanne Thomas, Tysheona Singleton, Caitlin Varner, Betty Refour, Lyric Manns, Amber N. Wiley, Marie Casimir, Gay Pasley, Cristle Moorer, Elizabeth Feahther Henley, Ebony Iman Dallas and Jiji Rachelle.

"Permission to Breathe: A Black Woman’s Perspective on Living Life Unapologetically," curated by Artists Ebony Iman Dallas, Elizabeth Feahther Henley, and Jaiden Jiji McClellan, opens 5-9pm, Saturday, February 7, 2025, and will continue through Saturday, February 28, with additional events during the exhibit to be announced. Gallery hours during the exhibit: Thurs, 6-8pm; Fri, 5-8pm; Sat, 12-5pm and by appointment. More info: linktr.ee/positivespacetulsa

The American West has long served as a symbol of freedom, ruggedness, perseverance, myth, and muse. But who gets to frame that story? And how does the image of the West evolve when seen through the eyes of today’s artists?

This exhibition features Oklahoma-based artists who bring fresh perspectives to this storied region. Through photography, painting, and sculpture, these artists reflect on life in the West, depicting the West not as a static ideal but as a complex, living place shaped by tradition, environment, and identity. From intimate portraits with echoes of classic cowboy culture to portrayals inspired by modern artistic movements and pop culture, this exhibit invites viewers to reconsider what the West looks like and how different Oklahoma artists choose to define it. Featuring works by Aldo Delara, Amy Jenkins, Bobby C. Martin, Charisa Dene Jacobs, Clayton Beavers, LaQuincey Reed, Leondre Lattimore, Pamela Winters, and Shirley Quaid.

      Registration: $200 per student

      Capacity: 6 participants

      All materials included

      Registration covers all four sessions

This four-week painting series offers an immersive introduction to intuitive abstraction, guiding participants through the creation of one cohesive abstract painting shaped by presence, emotion, and embodied creativity. Open to all experience levels, the course prioritizes exploration and emotional translation over technical perfection.

Each session begins with a brief grounding meditation to settle the nervous system and establish a calm, supportive space for creative flow.

      Week 1: Inspiration & Foundation

The opening session focuses on setting the energetic and creative groundwork for the series. Students will engage in meditation and reflective journaling to identify personal sources of inspiration, explore color mixing and emotional resonance, and begin their painting using intuitive movement and intention.

      Weeks 2–4: Developing the Work

The remaining sessions guide students through deepening and completing the painting. Instruction supports layering, texture, contrast, and thoughtful decision-making while encouraging trust in the unfolding process. Emphasis remains on staying present, listening to the work, and allowing the image to evolve naturally over time.

This course is ideal for artists seeking a slower, more reflective approach to painting and those interested in integrating mindfulness into their creative practice.

      MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Carla Corley is an artist, astrologer, and intuitive creator whose work blends fine art, spiritual symbolism, and energetic intention. Embodied Painting Workshop with Artist and OVAC Member Liz Dueck

      1-3pm, Saturday, March 21, 2026

Registration Required | $30, Materials included

Tune in to your body’s wisdom through the language of paint. In this Embodied

Painting workshop, we’ll move beyond technique to experience art as a form of

emotional regulation and self-expression. You’ll learn acrylic painting methods while

exploring how each brushstroke can reflect sensation, intuition, and release. Open to

all skill levels—just bring curiosity and presence. Materials included.

About the Exhibit, "A Year of Embodied Art" by Liz Dueck:

A documentation of her emotional states through painting and writing, Liz Dueck’s new work in "A Year of Embodied Art," gives the viewer a raw sequence of exploring the inside self vis à vis themes in nature. “I have come to understand my art practice as a spectrum, on one end is a literal approach to my physical surrounds that is research-based, site-specific learning about Oklahoma’s ecosystems and on the other end of the spectrum is the visibility of my emotional grounding in nature. Holding true to the belief that we are not separate to nature, it all lies under the same themes of exploration and connection with nature that has made up my creative practice.”

With self-imposed constraints on materials and her process, Dueck instead leads with emotion to explore Nature Expressionism in twelve paintings - “a consistent, genuine relationship with the Earth on a deep level with themes in nature have helped me understand themes within my own life - processing, accepting, and releasing hard things, because I see nature do it everyday.”

About the Artist: Liz Dueck is a Nature Artist, Art Educator, and Trail Guide whose work bridges painting, environmental art, and community connection. While oil painting is her primary medium, her practice expands into Land Art, natural materials, interactive sculpture, and collaborative outdoor experiences. Dueck’s style ranges from field-based research and depiction of Oklahoma’s eco-regions to an expressive, intuitive mode she calls Nature Expressionism, which translates the emotional resonance of place through bold gesture and layered textures. Dueck earned her BFA in Studio Art, Art Education Certification, and Art History minor from Oklahoma State University in 2017.

For generations, artists have learned by looking closely—studying the work of those who came before them to better understand how art is made and how ideas take shape.

This exhibition highlights OSU student creations inspired by pieces from the OSU Museum of Art’s permanent collection. Rather than copying historic works, students use them as starting points for practice and experimentation. The project invites them to interpret, question, and reimagine, gaining new insights into artistic methods and perspectives while expanding their own boundaries.

"Permission to Breathe: A Black Woman’s Perspective on Living Life Unapologetically," curated by Artists Ebony Iman Dallas, Elizabeth Feahther Henley, and Jaiden Jiji McClellan

ARTIST TALK + CLOSING RECEPTION, 2PM, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28, with special guest speaker, Michelle Burdex, Program Coordinator, Greenwood Cultural Center

The artist talk for "Permission to Breathe: A Black Woman’s Perspective on Living Life Unapologetically" unfolds as a shared breath—an intimate conversation centering Black women’s voices and lived experience. Participating artists will share how their work reflects the conscious decision to give themselves permission to breathe, and how this choice shapes both their creative practices and their lives.

The discussion is joined by guest speaker Michelle Burdex, Program Coordinator for the Greenwood Cultural Center, who will reflect on how she takes permission to breathe within cultural leadership and everyday life. Together, the conversation becomes a collective exhale—honoring vulnerability as strength, creativity as care, and Black womanhood as expansive and unapologetically present.

About the Guest Speaker: Michelle Burdex is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has served as the Program Coordinator for the Greenwood Cultural Center (GCC) for 29 years. She has implemented and managed several award-winning programs, including the Summer Arts Program, GCC’s Performing Arts Program, and the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Summer and After-School Program. In 2024, Michelle launched the 1619 Project: Summer Edition program in collaboration with Mizzen Education. Michelle is also a committed storyteller and tour guide, having led tours for thousands of students, educators, and tourists from around the world, including U.S. President Joe Biden, as a part of the Greenwood Cultural Center’s 100-year commemoration of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

Michelle has a unique ability to educate people about the tragic history of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the triumphant history of Black Wall Street through storytelling. Michelle is a member of the Tulsa Mass Graves Historical Narrative Committee and the American Folklore Society. She serves as a Board Member for A New Way Foundation. She is also a founding member and President of the Black Wall Street Historical Society, and a founding member of the Deep Greenwood Foundation.

In 2020, Michelle was selected to be a member of the Oklahoma Arts Council’s Leadership Arts Program and Leadership Tulsa’s Thrive Tulsa Leadership Program. She is a former Bloomberg Tech Fellow as a part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator Program.

In 2022, Michelle received the Archie Green Public Folklore Advocacy Award from the American Folklore Society. The award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions through public-oriented projects, programs, and innovative activities that have made a positive impact on folk traditions and their communities in the United States. In 2024, she was named a WESTAF Leader of Color. WESTAF is an initiative designed to address the need for diversity and inclusion within the arts and culture field, particularly in leadership roles. In 2025, Michelle received the Black Excellence Award for community service. Michelle is currently a member of the African American Leadership Academy for 2025-2026. A graphic promoting "Sailing Into Spring" at Howell Gallery on March 5th 2026, featuring a mixed media painting of flowers by Suzanne Mears.
The Howell Gallery is pleased to announce "Sailing into Spring," a solo exhibition of new mixed media paintings by OVAC Member, Suzanne Mears. The exhibition opens with an evening reception on Thursday, March 5th from 5 pm - 7 pm.

When the March winds blow, the sun gets brighter, and spring flowers start to emerge, it's the perfect time to present a show of new floral paintings. Mears brings a whimsical collection of colorful, joyful, and energetic works featuring spontaneous splashes of floral exuberance, textured layers, and a contemporary abstract approach.

The paintings, created on canvas, paper, and board, employ a rich variety of media including fluid acrylics, oil stick, alcohol inks, and pencil. Several pieces feature three to four coats of resin as a medium, adding luminous depth and dimension to the work.

For the past 25 years, Mears has concentrated primarily on fused glass, a demanding medium requiring mastery of precise firing techniques. While painting was always part of her creative practice, the technical demands of glass became a full-time pursuit. Her signature style—colorful, bold, and contemporary—has now found renewed expression in these paintings, which continue her exploration of joyous color and spontaneous mark-making.

Complementing the paintings are glass sculptures featuring cresting waves and sailboats, providing the inspiration for the exhibition's title and bridging Mears' established work in glass with her renewed focus on painting.

Local Artist and OVAC Member Liz Dueck Debuts New Work, "A Year of Embodied Art," Opening March 7 at Positive Space

A documentation of her emotional states through painting and writing, Liz Dueck’s new work in "A Year of Embodied Art" gives the viewer a raw sequence of exploring the inside self in regard to themes in nature.

With self-imposed constraints on materials and her process, Dueck instead leads with emotion to explore Nature Expressionism in twelve paintings - “a consistent, genuine relationship with the Earth on a deep level with themes in nature have helped me understand themes within my own life - processing, accepting, and releasing hard things, because I see nature do it every day.”

This solo exhibition by Alex Eischeid explores a deeply personal journey toward self-acceptance and self-love through conceptual self-portraiture.

Drawing from lived experience, the work confronts the contradictions many women grow up within: being encouraged to embrace difference while simultaneously being punished when those differences fall outside acceptable norms. Using her own body and image, the artist examines expectations placed on women and the shame that often follows.

The photographs are intentionally uncomfortable. Tension, distortion, and vulnerability are present by design, using discomfort as a tool to prompt reflection. Viewers are invited to question their own responses and consider where those reactions originate.

Rather than offering resolution or perfection, the exhibition moves toward honesty. The work serves as both a personal reckoning and an invitation to examine how unrealistic standards shape identity, perception, and self-image, and how we might move, imperfectly, toward self-acceptance and self-love.

      ABOUT THE ARTIST

Alex Eischeid is an award-winning conceptual self-portrait photographer based in Norman, Oklahoma. Her work draws from her experiences as a woman and a mother, using the self-portrait as both subject and symbol to explore identity, expectation, vulnerability, and resilience.

Blending surreal elements with emotional realism, her images exist between the familiar and the imagined, creating narrative-driven scenes that invite introspection. In addition to her photographic practice, Alex is an educator who teaches both online and in person, focusing on conceptual photography, creative editing, lighting, and intentional storytelling.

      HANDS ON WORKSHOP

During the exhibition, Alex will lead a two-day hands-on conceptual photography workshop. You can find here: https://tinyurl.com/3s7xk3kj

Day One focuses on defining conceptual photography and exploring the creative process, including finding inspiration, planning a shoot, color psychology, composition, and preparation for execution.

Day Two centers on lighting and photographing the image. Following the workshop, participants will receive access to a Dropbox folder containing a recorded edit of the final image to review at their own pace.

Additional details and registration information will be announced separately.

Talk with Art Therapist Paitton Kendrick Callery and founder of Sparks of Light Art Therapy, MA, LPC, ATR, C-DBT

An intimate conversation with an art therapist exploring the intersection of art-making,

embodiment, and emotional well-being. The talk will touch on how creative practices

can support self-regulation, self-inquiry, and healing, and how art can function as a

      language beyond words.

Discussion: Creating Your Own Mindful Art Practice

Following the talk, participants are invited into an open discussion on cultivating a

personal mindful art practice. Together, we’ll explore questions of intention, process

over product, and how to bring mindfulness into everyday creative routines—whether

you identify as an artist or not. Communal art supplies will be available and guests are

welcome to bring their own as well.

About the Exhibit, "A Year of Embodied Art" by OVAC Member Liz Dueck
